Ten days. Not three. Ten.
Everything that goes wrong for first-time exhibitors at the Lagos International Trade Fair traces back to that one number. Teams plan a stand and a rota sized for a normal three-day sector show, then discover on day five that their two best salespeople have lost their voices and nobody has typed up a single contact.
The fair rewards stamina more than spend. Here is what to prepare for.
What the fair is and who runs it
The Lagos International Trade Fair is organised by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce & Industry and held at Tafawa Balewa Square on Lagos Island. It runs ten days, with the 2026 edition listed for 6–15 November. The 2025 edition, the 39th, was opened by President Bola Tinubu, which tells you something about where it sits in the national calendar. This is the general trade fair, the one the political class turns up to.
The LCCI's exhibitor contact is litf@lagoschamber.com. Book early. Good positions on the main thoroughfares go months out, and the difference between a main aisle and a spot behind a hall pillar is not a matter of taste.
The scale, honestly stated
The 10times listing for the fair puts it at 500+ exhibitors with an expected 50,000–100,000 visitors. Recent editions have drawn 330 foreign exhibitors from 12 countries — China, Japan, Indonesia, Bulgaria, Oman, Vietnam, Ghana, Cameroon, Tanzania, Rwanda, Kenya and Benin — along with six Nigerian state governments.
Take the visitor range as an order of magnitude, not a promise. What it tells you is the kind of event you are entering: high-volume, consumer-heavy, and physically demanding in a way that a controlled hall like Landmark Centre is not.
What ten days at Tafawa Balewa Square demands
Budget for the fair as an operation, not an appearance.
Staffing is the real cost. Ten fair days plus build and teardown is twelve days of somebody's working life. Nobody stands well for ten consecutive days. You need two people on the stand at all times and a third rotating out, which for most SMEs means hiring and briefing temporary staff rather than sending the sales team and hoping.
Power is a line item, not an assumption. Get the included load in writing, get the price of extra capacity in writing, and know whether backup generation is central or yours. If your demo dies at 2pm on a Saturday, that is your busiest hour gone.
Security and stock. Ten nights on an open stand is ten opportunities. Take samples home nightly or lock them down, and keep an inventory sheet. Devices walk.
Logistics and stamina. Island traffic on a fair weekend is its own event, so the morning run leaves earlier than feels reasonable and staff coming from the mainland need a plan that is not "we'll see". Then the unglamorous part: water, closed shoes, a chair behind the counter, and shifts short enough that people are still smiling on day nine.
The crowd changes shape during the week
Plan for two different fairs inside the same ten days.
Weekdays skew toward trade: distributors, procurement people, resellers and delegations moving through in groups. Conversations run longer, the questions are commercial, and the person in front of you may actually be able to place an order. This is when your senior people should be on the stand.
Weekends skew toward the general public — families, students, people out for the day. Volume is much higher and intent is much lower. That is not a reason to write weekends off, it is a reason to change what you are trying to achieve there: reach, sampling and mass capture rather than closing.
So put your closers on Tuesday and Thursday, and your highest-energy, best-at-crowds people on Saturday and Sunday.
| Weekdays | Weekends | |
|---|---|---|
| Who shows up | Trade, procurement, resellers, delegations | General public, families, students |
| Volume | Lower | Much higher |
| Goal | Conversations and quotes | Reach, sampling, mass capture |
| Staff on stand | Senior sellers | Highest-energy staff, extra hands |
Weekdays are for conversations. Weekends are for capture. Staffing both the same way is why teams collapse by day six.
The Tech Hub and Africa Hall
Two features are worth knowing before you choose your space.
The Tech Hub pavilion clusters technology exhibitors together. If you sell software, devices or digital services, a pavilion of your peers beats an odd stand in a general hall. The visitors who walk in have self-selected, and neighbouring stands pull traffic for you rather than competing for a crowd that wants textiles.
The Africa Hall is given over to intra-African trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area framework. If your growth plan involves Ghana, Cameroon, Benin or Kenya, that hall is the reason to attend, and it changes who you put on the stand. Bring someone who can talk export terms, not just retail pricing.
The fair also runs 22 special days across its ten-day span — sector and state days that reshape who is in the building on a given morning. Ask the LCCI for the schedule when you book, and put your strongest staffing on the days that match your category.
Capturing leads across ten days without burning out
The failure mode is not day one. It is day seven, when someone quietly stops writing names down.
Trade Show PRO's 2026 statistics round-up reports that up to 80% of trade show leads never receive any follow-up, and that 46% of exhibitors still rely on manual processes — paper forms, handwritten notes, business cards. Ten days of paper is how a business card bowl becomes a bin bag.
A plan that survives the distance:
- Make capture take four seconds, not four minutes. If the visitor does the typing on their own phone, your staff are never the bottleneck and nothing degrades when they are tired. Trade Show PRO also notes that digital tools generate 3–4x more leads than manual methods.
- Give people a reason to hand over a real number. A branded prize wheel earns a phone number a clipboard does not, and the same round-up notes that gamified elements increase booth staff engagement by 35–40%, which on day eight matters as much as visitor appeal.
- Qualify at the point of capture. One dropdown asking what they do. Lead scoring at capture improves conversion by 38%, per the same source, and it costs one extra tap.
- Follow up during the fair, not after it. Per the same round-up, companies that contact leads within 24 hours are 6–9x more likely to convert than those who delay. Put someone off the stand each evening on the day's list. A ten-day fair gives you nine evenings of follow-up you can bank before teardown. Our 72-hour follow-up plan sets out the sequence.
- Rotate the capture duty. Whoever is freshest owns the QR pitch that shift.
Frequently asked questions
When is the Lagos International Trade Fair 2026?
It is listed for 6–15 November 2026 at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos. Confirm dates with the Lagos Chamber of Commerce & Industry at litf@lagoschamber.com before committing to travel or stand payments.
How many people attend the Lagos International Trade Fair?
The 10times listing gives an expected 50,000–100,000 visitors and 500+ exhibitors. Treat these as listed estimates rather than audited figures, and plan around the visitors who actually reach your aisle.
Is the Lagos International Trade Fair worth it for a small business?
It can be, if you have the staff to cover ten days and a way of capturing leads that does not depend on tired people writing legibly. If you cannot cover the full run, a shorter sector fair is a better first outing.
Does the Lagos International Trade Fair provide badge scanning for exhibitors?
Most Nigerian fairs do not issue scannable visitor badges, so there is no organiser lead-retrieval service to rent. Assume lead capture is entirely your own responsibility.
Sort your capture before you build the stand
Ten days at Tafawa Balewa Square will give you attention. Whether that becomes a pipeline depends on one decision made before the build: how a stranger's phone number gets into your system. Trade Shop puts a QR code on your stand, captures each visitor's details before they spin your branded wheel, and gives you a dashboard of leads and spin outcomes, plus a lead CSV export every evening.
Launch a campaign — from ₦10,000 for up to 3 days, plus ₦1,000 per extra day.
